Will Obama’s victory change anything?

November 5, 2008 Leave a comment

A political race that was followed through out the world came to an end with Barack Obama crossing the line well ahead of his opponent John McCain. Not long before he got the news Obama’s day turned from the elation of victory to the sobering confront of leading a nation worried about economic disaster, two unfinished wars in the form of (Afghanistan & Iraq) and global insecurity.

“The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep,” Were the words that Obama used when he turned attention towards the media.

His little experience on the national level did not stop him from smashing through racial barriers and easily defeated Republican John McCain to become the first African-American and America‘s 44th president. He is the first Democrat to receive more than 50 percent of the popular vote since Jimmy Carter in 1976.

Talking to a jammed crowd of around 125,000 people he spoke in a dignified manner, “It’s been a long time coming, but tonight, because of what we did on this date in this election at this defining moment, change has come to America,”

A journey that started for Obama 21 months ago and drew a record-shattering $700 million, Obama scored an Electoral College landslide that redrew America’s political map. He won states that reliably voted Republican in presidential elections, like Indiana and Virginia, which hadn’t supported the Democratic candidate in 44 years. Ohio and Florida, also went for Obama, as did Pennsylvania, which McCain had deemed crucial for his election hopes. Victory

Daylight timings, its effect on Pakistan

November 2, 2008 Leave a comment

On the November 1, the clocks were reversed back a hour which had been shifted an hour ahead back some six months but did it serve the purpose for which they had been done and the answer would be an annoying no!

A practice that was to yield some results after implantation like that of energy saving for an example turned out to be the best for an extended hour sleep in the evenings and an hour less to get ready  at the start of the day that is what many people said when I asked the same question from them that is circling in my mind that did it benefit us somehow.

This shift in the time was for a reason that the retailers get a chance to utilize the daylight but here I saw usually they used to come on the old time and that really made the whole concept to go from bad to worst.

This concept to many seems a new thing but actually it has stayed back from the 17th century, it was also used quite adequately in the second world war by the British and the U.S armies.
